Snip-Its ...

Because life has been moving in such crazy directions this summer I have been sharing weekly "Snip-its' of what has been happening.  While I have been busy with family and getting children ready for college, Design Inspiration is everywhere.  I hope you enjoy finding it with me.  Last week's Snip-its gathered some funny comments about plaid and painted brick.  I will have some follow up on those for you in the next week.  I think you will be pleased!

In the meantime, here are this week's Snip-its!

Life is Short.  So I try my hardest to take advantage of every blessed moment.

This Week I packed it in.

Erin and I drove from Sherborn to Auburn via DC, Charlotte and Scott's Antique Market.

1.  Fabulous Jewelry at Scott's.  The Chunkier the Better!

2.  Beautiful Southern Magnolias in DC.  I wish we had them in New Englang. 

Especially at Christmas time.

3.  Speaking of Christmas ... I'd love a suzani!

4. Stars of Freedom.  The World War II Monument in DC.  Breathtaking.

5. Blogging Friends Nancy and Bethany.  Wonderful Dinner with these 2 precious women!  Friendships that were formed through blogging and are now cemented. Very Blessed.

6.  Cotton.  A plea to my Ya Ya in Alabama, please pick some for me!

7.  My Scott's finds! Mini bamboo easels. Coin Jewelry. Tortoise "shell" napkin rings.

8.  Large Brass Rams Head.  He really wanted to come home with me.  He didn't.

9.  Gourds!  My Nanny had these hanging by the dozens in her backyard. Who knew?

College vs. Cupcakes

On our quest for the perfect college Callie and I took a tour of Georgetown University. A beautiful campus tucked into Washington DC.  As we drove into DC, The Capitol just rose up and welcomed us!

DC is such a wonderful place ... It really made me feel proud to be an American.  

The World War II Museum ... I had not seen, it is fairly new ...  was beautiful.  And there was such a peaceful feeling as we walked around the fountains.  It was obvious that the visitors were there with much respect to all the lives lost to keep our Freedoms.

On to Georgetown, the campus was a little quiet as classes have not begun yet ... but you could feel the energy building as it was getting ready to welcome back the students.

Callie has turned our college tours into history lessons for me.  I have enjoyed visiting places I have never been and learning about how they came to be.  Each and every one we visit has been interesting and I can see her thriving in most of them.  Each possesses just a little piece of uniqueness that we have tried to uncover to see if it fits her.

Then there is this other thing about Georgetown ...

We didn't need the menu board ... we both came in with one desire.

Many temptations ... 

 But the winner ... IS and always HAS been ...

I wonder ... is this REALLY why we are here?  She assures me not!!

Tree Inspiration ...

Whenever I go visit Mother and Daddy ... I always go to Parsons.  Parsons has been in Cumming, Georgia since ... Forever!  They have some of the typical gift shop items ... including Vera Bradley, Brighton, blah, blah, blah ... but what they have that no one else has is ... Christmas!  Not just the average ornaments and sterile decorations that everyone else brings out at this time of year.  They have gorgeous ribbons, candles, artificial floral "stuff" that no ACMoore or Michael's will ever be able to replicate.  There lies the problem. I can only bring so much home at a time!  Here was my inspiration tree ...

We put up one artificial tree each year along with a real one.  The kids get the real one ... it is our family tree with homemade ornaments from years gone by and new things we add along the way.  The artificial tree has become home to our collection of White House Ornaments.  Don started collecting them when he lived in Washington DC and we have continued the collection ... now we have over 20.

This year's ornament honoring Theodore Roosevelt ...

While we are thrilled to have over 20 of these special ornaments ... that really doesn't fill a tree ... so with the inspiration tree from Parsons and a quick shopping spree ...

I was able to haul 9 gold glittered hydrangeas and some beautiful "balls" home!!  I wish I had bought more ribbon and some of the fun "twigs" they used.  Maybe next year ... like everything else I do ... it will continue evolving over time!

Rainy Day in DC ... Winning!!

Don and I were in DC this past weekend to attend a good friend's 60th birthday! I had BIG visions of photos galore to wow you with!!  It was rainy and truthfully, kind of gross for wondering!  So life presented itself in a different manner, and as usual gave me some visuals I couldn't have imagined!   When we arrived on Friday afternoon we headed up towards Adams Morgan, where Don used to live, for a little reminiscing!  It was a grey day ... but we continued on ... and look who we met ...

Even this guy was a little sad about the weather!

Saturday we wondered under an umbrella through Georgetown and CB2 was having a "key" promotion.  You could unlock gift certificates from $10 to $1,000.00.  Well, I was game, and I don't really generally win things.  Today I did!!  I scored a $50 gift certificate!!

I have to admit I thought this was clever, not certain I'd do it ... but clever nonetheless!!  Wood blocks set up as books!

I have searched CB2 on the web before, but had never been in one of their stores.  I found it sits somewhere between IKEA and Crate and Barrel.  A fun store and some fun ideas ... I can't wait to go online and see how I want to spend my $50.00!!!
