New England is embracing the GRIT!
One of the biggest changes in moving to New England, besides the OBVIOUS weather, was the grocery store!!
I cannot buy field peas (my favorite) in the frozen OR fresh section of the grocery. If I search hard I can sometimes find butter beans. We have plenty of the big meaty Lima's ... ick.
Then the grits. I can only find them in select places and then all I can buy is Quaker Oats Quick Grits. They are fine in a pinch. A REALLY big pinch!
This has led me to a life of smuggling. For the past 8 years I stock up when I am in the South. I have even had them shipped. I know, it is an obsession! Nothing like good ol' Stone Ground Grits! Now I know I can head into Boston and get my Grits with Lobster. I am loving this ... Hallelujah Chorus is Singing!!
Have a Wonderful Weekend and hope to see you back next week as I share several projects that are perking along!

My husband like grits, too. He likes the Quaker instant ones. I'm not a fan...I bet I would like the stone ground ones.
ReplyDeleteWe are backwards.. I'm from Long Island and never heard of grits and now here I am living in Georgia where grits are a life line!!! Go figure. ....just take me to a Panera Bread!
ReplyDeleteI love shrimp and grits, but NEVER had lobster! That sounds fantastic! I hope you have a great weekend, Kim.

My husband and I have a long standing disagreement about grits that we joke about. He is from PA and hates them. I am from Virginia and I love grits. I told him the other day I was going to open a restaurant called "Grits R Us" LOL! Luckily, there is a little throwback diner a few miles away that makes grits right.
ReplyDeleteGrits can be soooo good when prepared deliciously...you're making me crave them now! LOL
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine a world without grits. I'll be happy to send you a care package, if need be.
ReplyDeleteBeing a New Englander I have to ask are grits the same as Cream of Wheat?
ReplyDeleteHi Naz! No, cream of wheat is different, mushier I think!! Grits are grainy ... and more like polenta! You need to try some! Thanks for stopping by my blog!
DeleteI have never had grits! I'm a California girl and I have never been to the south. One day I will have to try them. I do understand cravings though.
