Powder Room ... Week 5!

Hard to believe it is Week 5 of the Infamous One Room Challenge!  Have you been keeping up as 20 Designer/DIY'er's change up a room in 6 weeks?
Check in at Calling It Home and see the fabulous group Linda has rounded up for the challenge

This year Linda invited everyone else with an urge to get something done, to join in!

You will find me and around 60 others over at the

It will truly be a Partayyyy!!  Because I will have my powder room finished!!

Lookie what I got ...

No real introductions needed here ... but for those of you who have been living under a  rock, let me introduce you to Jennifer!

I first met her during one of the first ORC's and she is what my MIL calls a
"Hot Ticket"!
She does the most amazing Chinoiserie prints and I have been coveting them for quite some time now.  So I had to re-do my Powder Room to make it happen!

Here is a round up of some of my favorites (besides my ELEPHANTS) ...

Can I also tell you how NICE she is??

And how Talented she is???

And you need to see what she is doing in her daughter's bedroom!!

And the prints she did for Linda's Family Room!

So ... while I am scurrying around in the background putting the final touches on my Powder Room, I am doing little cartwheels while admiring my elephants!!

You should stop in her shop!  Go get you some Goodness!!

I have also been working on my own little version of Leontine Linens ... Remember my inspiration?  Well, I have real people with real dirty hands using my towels.  So while one day I aspire to have these beautiful towels in my powder room ... for now I am doing my own little DIY hand towel.

It is starting out like this ....

Oh my ... all to be done and ready for the BIG SHOW next week.  Thanks so much to those of you who have watched and cheered me on to finish this little room.  It is quickly becoming one of the favorite spots in my home!

Go check out the other Partayyyy girls here!

Cotton Pickin' Tuesday ...

Significant for two reasons.  One, all day yesterday I couldn't keep straight that it was Monday not Tuesday.  Don's work schedule has been whacky and it has me totally screwed up as well.

So ... here's the cotton pickin' part ...

How lucky am I that I have a friend sweet enough to accept my weirdness and has enough spunk in herself to pick me some cotton!!

Part of what makes Fall for me is all the texture that nature gives.  Besides pumpkins, which I do love ... yes, even in their orange state!  I do love the white ones as well ... but let's not forget how I feel about orange.  I digress.

So Lynn travels this road almost daily as she heads to work.
She has been giving me the scouting report.

Then, like all good crops ... picking time presented itself.
She stopped, she picked, she packed and she delivered!

I have been delicately trying to get all the little "stuff" out of the cotton ... But then I poured myself a glass of wine.  Patience is not my strength.
Guess I'll work on it a little more tonight!

So when I say I have been pickin' cotton you'll know I am not telling a lie.

I remember passing this "southern snow" in the fields driving to and from Auburn while I was in school.  It's truly amazing how the fields go on for what seems forever.

I know ... it still needs a little (LOT) of work ... but I knew you would appreciate it!

Oh yeah, and I picked these Montauk Daisies out of my garden last night ... supposed to get the kind of freeze this week that kills everything.  I might as well go ahead and enjoy them!

It's going to be a Real Tuesday ... all day!

Firecracker, Firecraker ...

"The boys have the muscles, the coaches have the brains, the girls have the sexy legs and we win the game!"

Yup, Week Four of the Six Week ORC Link up, Grab yourself a room and do it now kind of situation!  Thanks to Linda of Calling It Home ... there are a crazy lot of folks out there truly transforming a space in 6 weeks.

Let me tell you ... I know this is no small feat!  I participated in the first three ORC's ... you can see what I did here:

And now I am Linking Up to the official party. Every Thursday anyone who wants can motivate themselves to get involved.  And then once you are in ... the motivation and sheer pressure by your peers to get a move on ... well, no one can fail at this!

If you have been checking in you know I am working on My Powder Room.

It is small ... and I am gratefully telling you that I am almost done.  Now, I've done the whole start from scratch, fill every space, etc in past challenges. This time I am counting my blessings my furniture is only a sink and a toilet.  And I liked them both ... so they are staying.

Most of what I have been doing is what I like to call the Big Fluff ... important in a Powder Room, you know?

So back to my Cheer ...

By now you know I went from Brown to Shrimp to Black and White.
Well, seriously?  I need color.

This week it is all about Firecracker.  You know when you start painting something and you love it so much you just keep going ... and going.  Like the Energizer Bunny.

Well, I have a quart of Firecracker ... and maybe not the sexy legs ... but just the same I am feeling like I'm winning my own little Powder Room Game!!

Finishing touches and softness coming in next week.  Now go see what the rest of My Link Up friends are up to!

Monday Motivation!

Good Monday Morning!  This weekend was full of Fall ... and as I am on a total mission to GSD ... I bring you photos from the weekend!

One of the first things Don and I did when we moved into our Farm Road house was build a stone entry.  These are my absolute favorite Pineapple Lanterns ...

I wanted to make a stamp and the Pineapple represented Southern Hospitality for this classic New England Road!

Saturday night our Middle School had a fundraiser on the grounds of a beautiful Farm.

It was a wine tasting/silent auction ...

I give huge applause for the families that worked so hard to put this on ... the decorations and the night were perfection!

Short and sweet ... Hitting the road early today!

My Powder Room ... Week 3 ORC Link Up!

Time flies when you're having fun!  Here we are at Week 3 of the One Room Challenge Linking Party.  Things are shaping up!

First things first ... last week I posted this "mood board"

Like many of you ... I feel that the Pagoda mirror rocks.  Yes, it does.
It is NOT mine!  I only wish!
Brandy had this mirror and we chatted.  2 reasons I don't own it.
1.  Too Large for my Powder Room
2.  It was $1200.00 ... Don would kill me.  But the powder room would be pretty!!

So ... if you follow me on IG ... you know what I am working with instead!

Now ... here's what has been happening this week.

MOM!!  I need some toilet paper ...

Do you hear these words?  I can call it a Powder Room all day long.
It is a WorkHorse.
Christopher's main bathroom, the guest bathroom, the I can handle it all bathroom!
And we are always running out of toilet paper!

Some storage ideas ...

Image
While I was in Home Goods I spied this ... hmm ...

A little glossy white spray paint and I've got the prettiest TP holder on the block!

And yes, you spy my Stroheim black and white wallpaper!

I am in love with the way it looks and cannot wait to show you the rest of the details making this space SHINE!

Don't forget to pop over to Linda's and see all the other One Room Challenge Link Up Participants!

Open Minded ... Shabby Chic or Gustavian?

Late last night I had an Aha Moment about Gustavian furniture.
The Simplicity of Painted furniture ... the predecessor of Shabby Chic.

I LOVE painted furniture, Shabby Chic ... Gustavian!

Hello!!

One thing about this business is that you are inundated by so many different furniture periods and styles that you begin to appreciate them all and kind find a home for them ... or room for them in your home.

In my twenties I would have told you that I didn't like "modern" ... which is funny, because it was all around me and now I love the "mid-century modern"!

If you would have asked me how I felt about Swedish design, I probably would have said that it's okay, but I like something with a little more warmth.  What did I know?

Do you find that as you study and experience more that you actually find yourself a little more openminded?

I won't bore you with all the "history" but here is a Kim'ism of Gustavian furniture!

Early Gustavian was inspired by French Rococco and Italian design ... but the Swedes took these influences and created a more restrained version more suitable to them than the over-embellished styles.

"The most typical colors from the Gustavian period were grey, yellow ochre and a Swedish blue. When one finds a Swedish antique with an original finish in tact you can see the difference immediatley. These pieces of Swedish furniture have SOUL. " More info here

I believe there is a place for all styles within a home.  That is what makes it more exciting for me.  Bringing in what you love, no matter the style.  Design has no rules.

Just like life ... there is room for everyone and every furniture style!

Powder Room - Week 2 ORC Link Up!

Week Two of Linda's ORC Link Up.

I hope you are following along the 20 designers and diy'ers she has on Wednesdays too!

Last week I showed you an inspiration photo.
Glamorous and Simple.

This week I bring my take on things.

The Road to My Design ...

1.  Pagoda Mirror.
2.  Firecracker Paint.
3.  Elephant Prints by our Friend Jennifer!
4. Leontine ... luxe hand towels!!
5.  Boxwoods ... I need green. For Balance.
6.  Gold Chevron Wastebasket.

When this powder room was evolving ... I wanted this:

This is when real decisions start to be made.  I REALLY wanted this Quadrille wallpaper which lead me to the hexagon floor.  I only needed 5 rolls of wallpaper.  This Q paper isn't stocked.  You have to special order it with a set up fee of $100.00 plus you have to purchase a minimum of 10 single rolls.

Yes, I probably could have found someone to buy the rest, or sat on it ... but couldn't justify basically doubling the price for the paper.

I had to sit back and re-group.  And as I did this mental re-grouping I found these 18X18  Thassos Marble tiles on special at my favorite tile store.

Ultimately I did make the decision to go for the large white tiles for several reasons.

The 18X18 tiles helped make the room seem larger.
Far better price,
I was so tired of the dark green flooring and this brought the light and shine!
And the new wallpaper I chose (check in next week!) looks dynamite with the white!

If you have a minute please visit me here.  Tiffany is doing a Fall thing ... I don't really decorate the inside for fall.  Not since the kids were really little and we had "Mr. Spooky" hanging from the ceiling to scare little costumed creatures knocking on the door!

So instead, Get inspired by beautiful White Farm Houses and Fall Foliage!

Thanks for stopping by and supporting me in the Link Up!

Detailing the Case Good ...

I am totally impressed with all the IKEA hacks going on out in the DIY world.
I haven't taken part.  Perhaps I am missing out.

Guy Chaddock has some detailed goods that could rock any room.

I don't for a minute think that an IKEA hack will give the quality or feel of the Chaddock pieces ... but sure could be a way to add a little life to an old piece!

Since my body is no longer a viable candidate for a belly button piercing, I will turn my focus to the blinging of the Case Good!
