Happy Tuesday ... can't wait for you to check back in tomorrow for the ORC Reveal!!

Curve balls and Brimfield ...

Erin and I were supposed to start our drive this morning to take her to Auburn.  She is living in an apartment for her Junior and Senior years and we have had such fun this summer finding  and repurposing for her little apartment.  Trying to keep us both remembering that this is a COLLEGE apartment.  It needs to be fun, but cheap!!  We don't need any fine pieces ... but want some style!

Here are a few things that we found at Brimfield earlier this month.

A few accessories to add to her bookshelves and for her bathroom!

The large tins for art over their IKEA Ektorp Sofa ... which I am convinced is the best college piece of furniture ever!

Cooper is convinced that this means someone is about to throw a ball for him!

Two little chairs for their small balcony ...

The dough bowl and french linen are mine ... just thought they looked fun in the loot shoot!!

The dogs were please with our find ... and Byron continues to nurture Murphy!

Erin has been working so hard at school and her job this summer Don and I decided to get the Denali fixed up and let her have it to take back to school.  This also gave us the freedom to shop here as we would have plenty of hauling space!

Then the curve ball ...

Good news ... all are healthy, no one hurt, and we bought ourselves a couple more days home with her.  We'll be flying out later this week and when the car is fixed we can re-schedule our road trip!

Life's curve balls ... making the best of 'em!

Lake Livin' Part II

Our second home tour on the Lake ... what appears to look like an old "camp" house turned out to be nothing of the sort once we stepped into the door!

Lots of windows brought in so much natural light ... quite the contrast to the dark exterior.

All of the rooms facing the water had these gorgeous floor to ceiling windows ...

More windows in this office space. I probably would not get much work done here!

Overlooking the dock ...

White Walls and a Dark Ceiling made it very light and warm.

A guest or child's bedroom with fun headboards ...

Made out of cork!

Another gander at the dark planked ceilings!

We entered on the second floor ... then down to the main living space closer to the Lake.

Very modern, the furniture not quite as cozy warm as the first one but cool just the same!

The stained concrete floors make for great lake house floors.  No maintenance and you can't hurt them in any way!!

Part of our crew taking over the place!  Two sliding Wooden Doors close off the living space from the Master Bedroom and Master Bathroom.

Love the framed Black and White Photos hung on Wire.

View from the Master Bathroom ...

First impression of the Master Bath leaves me feeling a little COLD!! ... and nervous!

Toward the left to the Shower ... better ...

Back to the Right ... I don't know ... a little torturous to me!!

Master Bedroom ... a little more welcoming than the Bath!

Back down the hall to the kitchen ... still lovin' the windows!

Passing the Living Area ...

Up a couple of stairs to the kitchen ...

Love the separate refrigerator and freezer!

Back up and out we go ...

House Hunting ... Model Homes ... They all bring new ideas and thoughts about Design ...
Did you get any ideas you might use?

Enjoy your Weekend!

Time for the BLING! ORC Week #5!

If you have seen crazy women driving around looking a little frazzled, it is thanks to Linda who brought us all together for the Second One Room Challenge.

We've been wallowing in the neutral zone ... and I don't for a minute want you to think this room is BORING!

Our desire for a Keeping Room began as my client started connecting to the sound of this ... where the family can lounge, relax, read, play games or just hang while she is in the kitchen putting together a meal.

Not only are there no mudrooms in these Colonials of the 60's and 70's, The great room was only beginning to be considered.  The Keeping Room is truly the precursor of this Great Room.  So to move FORWARD, we must go BACKWARD!!

We all know the party is in the kitchen, so we are bringing it home with the Keeping Room!

To help bring in the warmth of our neutral palate, I wanted texture and layering.

My favorite layering effect is a Sea Grass Rug and Animal Skin.  We chose a custom Sea Grass so we could make the most of the rug in the space.  Remember my guidelines on a good cut and bound rug?

Then the Skin!

Remember the Tiffany Lamp?  It is Gone Baby Gone!!  ... and here, in it's place, is our Bling!

I gave you my trick for finding the perfect chandelier size in the first One Room Challenge ... you can get the details here!

We have brought Bling UP and Bling DOWN this room!  We are pulling together the last touches of our Keeping Room ... and cannot wait for the big Reveal next week!!!

It has been such fun working with my client on this room ... it is becoming functional and beautiful ... the perfect MIX.

Don't forget to check in with my other ORC Girls ... they are knocking it out of the Park!!

Lake Livin'

I spent the past weekend with my "ya ya's".  Read, best friends ... we four were sorority sisters at Auburn and have been blessed to have our families grow up together!  One of the lucky ya ya's has a home on Smith Lake right outside of Birmingham Alabama.  We had a ball ... and they treated me to some home tours ...

Here's a peak at Model House #1 in a new Development called Point William ...

What appears as a little cabin ... opened up into a beautiful space full of light and views of Smith Lake!

Hope you have a wonderful week!
