"Back in the Day" before blogs ... I was taking kid photos, not home design projects. Last week an IG friend posted a photo of some old fabric she was going to re-purpose and it reminded me of this time in my life.
I worked very hard for this complete Ralph Lauren Bedroom ensemble! And the Laura Ashley Stripe wallpaper ... my favorite. When I look back at this photo I am reminded how much I love the look. This was circa 1996 ... almost 20 years ago. I think it is time for a rebirth of the Cabbage Rose.
Fast Forward to now and I have a new client with this sofa!
I actually told her it was so old it is almost Current!
Knee jerk reaction ... how can we ditch it?
After careful thought ... We decided to see how we can keep it and make it feel fresh and NOW.
And NOT ... Shabby Chic.
Here's a little mix we came up with to bring the Cabbage Rose into 2014!
The Cabbage Rose ... Is it NOW or NOT?
Stay tuned!!

I love it!! I still own a Ralph Lauren floral sofa! See my kitchen remodel post for a pic. I recently sold all of my "vintage" Ralph Lauren bedding on eBay. I kind of miss it. Let's bring back the cabbage rose!!!
ReplyDeleteI mixed the prints! Had a bed with at least three different floral prints as the sheets and shams Then to top it off.....made drapery panels out of the floral sheets!
ReplyDeleteOh, it's so now! It may not be main stream, but it is coming into favor once again. Way to save a classic! Love the new fabrics that bring it up to speed.

I think it's a NOW, especially if your paired it with these modern fabrics here. Can't wait to see it Kim!
ReplyDeleteNOW....I have it in my bedroom. (and I definitely had it years ago, too). Seems like smaller quantities of it are in use...that could change.
ReplyDeleteI love the first picture...SO 90's, as my daughter would say! Hopefully my favorite Cowtan and Tout chintz chairs will be back in style soon! Enjoy the rest of your week, Kim! xoxo
ReplyDeleteGo girl, I think those fabrics make the sofa feel very now and very fun!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely now! Your combo of prints is perfect! I still have a RL set in my basement!
ReplyDeletePersonally I hope it does come back. I currently have a set of rose chintz pillow shams (with ruffled border) in my guest bedroom. I bought the bedding set as a young bride in my first master bedroom and I haven't been able to part with it for 25 years! I have tried to update the look with rich gray/green walls, a simple mattelasse' quilt and modern lamps. Still feels a little old fashioned, but I don't hate it.
ReplyDeleteNow! I love it....and also loved it the last time :). I want some shiny chintz, and I can't believe that I just typed that.
ReplyDeletewow, perfect fabric combos to update it! I love that first picture of your babies! Have a great weekend. xo NANCY
ReplyDeleteReally like all of your inspirational ideas. I am sure you will make the right choice for your first bed room. Have a great week.

We had that same Ralph Lauren bedding, oh my gosh!!!! And I have had a lot of cabbage roses over the years….Laura Ashley, I was totally obsessed. I have to find pictures…….you will laugh. How cute are your babies in the bed by the way??
ReplyDeleteLove the modern fabrics you paired with it...with those your cabbage roses are ready to shine in 2014 and beyond! Elle @ Summerland Homes and Gardens
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I had that same bedding ensemble! Actually, it is still in my bedroom at my parents house! I would argue that cabbage roses and chintz never technically went out... it's just such a classic pattern! And that sofa is GORGEOUS!!!! It would be a crime to get rid of it! Southern Living recently ran a piece on the return of chintz... It is definitely experiencing a revival!

I have that Allison RL comforter set that has been sealed up in storage. My kids joke that I have a linen hording issue. I am using it in one of the bedrooms in our recently purchased mountain home in NC. It's like seeing an old friend. It looks great with the knotty pine and more rustic look.
