Official End of Summer ... Friday Snip-its!

1.  I started out the week Roaring ... A Force to be reckoned with!
2.  Loving my Lion Footed Planter I found at an Estate Sale.
3. Successful Dorm Move - In.
4. New Items at Holliston Antiques ... Stop by for a visit if you're in the 'hood!
5. Gold Spray Paint has become my New Friend.
6.  Mirror found while taking Callie to college.  There is another one. Hmmm.
7. More Lion love, from my visit to DC recently.
8. Salvation Army Cheap Table.  Becoming Gold. Just you Wait!
9.  I started out Roaring ... My Roar became kind of a scream.  School finally started.  Doctor's visits, Popped Shoulder for Christopher.  I think I like Football ... not so sure anymore.  I bit into a pretzel and broke a tooth.  I don't think there is anything that can make me feel older than breaking a tooth.  Really???

Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend and hope you get your Roar On!

Back to the Home Tour ... Our Living Room ...

A couple of weeks ago on my Friday Snip-its ... I discussed brick.

To paint or Not to paint.

The images I shared ... I agree with you totally.  DON'T Paint.

But here's what I have ... and no, the fact that a lightbulb is out is NOT the problem!

Do you see how DARK it is in that back wall and in both corners.  I tried so many ways to keep the brick and lighten it up.

Then, I took the jump.  And painted the whole damn thing.  WHITE.

Here, I was playing with mantel colors.  Mustard.  I am not a fan of Hot Dogs.
This was short lived.

The little bar area also had no light.  I loved it ... but I just need LIGHT!

Here is is today.  White Brick, White behind the bar ... and a little door treatment in the bar area.

Red Mantel. Fun for now.

The LIGHT.  Oh how I love the LIGHT.

The Bar.  White Walls. Portrait Light. Pattern on the Doors. Love.
John Gonella Art

Again, the Before ...

The Original Dark Corner.  Now has Light.
Favorite piece of Jane's Art.

The Whole After ...

No Shades on Chandelier.  White Brick. Portrait Light.

Making my life brighter!

Things continue to change with the wind.  But I am so much happier with the Light.

I have fallen in love with New England.  But when it is dark at 4:30 in December, I need the light.  The painted brick delivers the goods.

In my case.  It was necessary to Paint the Brick!

Glad you stopped by for another visit ... have a wonderful week!

Friday Snip-its ...

This week was about me.  Not intentionally, it just happened.
This week I was blessed with GirlFriends.

1.  I got to see my Ya Ya's for the second time this summer.
We were waiting for the last one to arrive.  All glasses and hearts were filled.
2. Visited Jill and lived her "in-town" life for a day.
Restoration Hardware ... Large Relief as a centerpiece ... Beautiful.
3.  Still working on Dorm Living and this laser cut bulletin board was an inspiration.
4.  Purple Sunflowers at the Boston Farmers Market while walking around town with Jill.
5.  Spent the day on the Cape with Karen.  Nourishing my Soul.
6.  Fruit and Veggies at the Boston Farmers Market.  Nourishing my Tummy.
7.  I never have a good solution for my silverware for outside dining.  Restoration Hardware solved it by using small urns and beans!
8.  Old Style. BeachClub Storage Lockers on the Cape ... I love the History and Feel.
9.  Hydrangeas and Shakes. Quintessential Cape Style.

We all do what we have to do. Day in and Day out.  And some days work themselves out to bring the nourishment we need.  This was my week.  I am ever Thankful.

What do you do to nourish your soul?

DIY for Dorm Livin'

I don't post a lot of DIY things.  Because there are alot of DIY'ers better than me!!

But I thought I'd share some DIY'ing going on during the dorm prep that has been going on in this house.

First, you know I moved Erin to Auburn last week.
She has graduated from the dorm to an apartment.

I would like to say how impressed I am with her interest and skills.
We have done "arts and crafts" in this house FOREVER.

She has put her skills to good use.

Her own Chevron Headboard.

The Frame we picked up at Brimfield two summers ago and she has used it to "hang" her snapshots of college life and friends.

The little chest was in my parents's home forever.  It was brown/oak. Ick.

Some Clean White paint.

   Emerald Green on the hardware.
Just what a girl needs.  Some Emerald.

The Jack Wills shams were re-purposed from her previous dorm room.  Adding the Fluff.

Then, back on the home front ... Callie and I are prepping for her FIRST Dorm Run.

She has a TEENY room.  So we are on a mission to make her walls talk.

Bulletin Board you say ...

We went to Michaels searching the aisles.
We wanted larger than the pre-made bulletin boards.
Thinking we would be doing a little foam core board with cork ... then how to hang it and keep it from being too flimsy?

We stumbled onto this.

A large Art Canvas.  This solved several problems.

On a wood frame ... easy to hang.
Wouldn't have to piece together foam core with tons of duct tape.
Okay ... it was $39.99. Really more than I wanted to spend.
But I have the Michael's App on my phone. Erin downloaded this for me.
Thank you.
Back to school scratch tickets gave me 25% off my entire sale.
Sold.

Cork Put on with Spray adhesive.  And some extra fabric I had from my Office Illusion.

Over some batting.  I like things Soft.  Clearly this is why I don't work out.

Back inside for Orange Grosgrain Ribbon and Thumbtacks.
Bucknell's colors are Orange and Blue.
So don't go thinking I MADE her do Orange.

Spray Painted Wooden Monogram.
Hot Glued On.

TA DA ...

She just announced she would like a twin size headboard like her sister's.
Guess what we'll be doing that over the weekend.

Yep.  More Arts and Crafts.  What have you been DIY'ing lately?  Please share!

Cover Models ...

I have been working on a master bedroom at Smith Lake in Alabama.  You may remember the fabrics we picked out.  Since I was already in Alabama getting Erin settled at Auburn I thought it time I stopped by and finished things up.

I found myself here on Friday.  And brought these little items home.

Brass Mallard Duck Head Book Ends.
Orange Books.  Spraypainted. I will be doing something similar.
Little Blue/White Crock.

All to bring a little styling together while being true to the feel of the Lake.

One of the booths at the Pickers mall had a line of orange books.  That is what drew me in.

While I was picking ... this was going on at OKL.

These "painted" books are by Thatcher Wine.  While I love what he has done here ... I think I might be more in love with his name.  Thatcher Wine.  With a name like that you know he has sump'in going on!!  You can read more about him on OKL and possibly score yourself some Thatcher Wine.

It's Monday ... Go ahead and do something your Mother taught you NOT to do ...
Judge the book by it's cover!

Snip-Its ...

Because life has been moving in such crazy directions this summer I have been sharing weekly "Snip-its' of what has been happening.  While I have been busy with family and getting children ready for college, Design Inspiration is everywhere.  I hope you enjoy finding it with me.  Last week's Snip-its gathered some funny comments about plaid and painted brick.  I will have some follow up on those for you in the next week.  I think you will be pleased!

In the meantime, here are this week's Snip-its!

Life is Short.  So I try my hardest to take advantage of every blessed moment.

This Week I packed it in.

Erin and I drove from Sherborn to Auburn via DC, Charlotte and Scott's Antique Market.

1.  Fabulous Jewelry at Scott's.  The Chunkier the Better!
2.  Beautiful Southern Magnolias in DC.  I wish we had them in New Englang.
Especially at Christmas time.
3.  Speaking of Christmas ... I'd love a suzani!
4. Stars of Freedom.  The World War II Monument in DC.  Breathtaking.
5. Blogging Friends Nancy and Bethany.  Wonderful Dinner with these 2 precious women!  Friendships that were formed through blogging and are now cemented. Very Blessed.
6.  Cotton.  A plea to my Ya Ya in Alabama, please pick some for me!
7.  My Scott's finds! Mini bamboo easels. Coin Jewelry. Tortoise "shell" napkin rings.
8.  Large Brass Rams Head.  He really wanted to come home with me.  He didn't.
9.  Gourds!  My Nanny had these hanging by the dozens in her backyard. Who knew?

Have a wonderful weekend ... Make the most of your life's Snip-Its.
Sometimes it's all we get!!

How did I not know?

Happy Monday my friends!

You know I love a good Brimfield find.  And here is one that I missed last month.
I will hunt them down in September.  Please, please ... let them be there in September!!

These blue and white bags are by Ahinsa Lifetime Weavers.  A company based in Massachusetts that creates opportunities for income and growth for the workers that hand weave these bags with cotton and banana fibers in Karnataka, India.

I love how the basket sits ready at the waiting for a beautiful laundry setting in this French Inspired Farmhouse in Los Angeles.

These might even make ME want to do laundry!

Brimfield is BIG.  Really BIG.  If anyone knows what field these were in, please share!

Hope it is a good week for you ... wherever your hunt takes you!
